Superintendent Presents Proposed FY2011 Budget

Inclement Weather Procedures

Congratulations, Mrs. Hayes

School Counselor Appreciation Week

Join Buckland Mills' students and staff as we let our counselors know how much we appreciate their hard work and dedication. Mrs. Bauer, Mrs. Carter and Ms. Hudspeth prove their commitment to our school through the various ongoing programs that they administer daily. Whether it is the Mentor/Mentee program, PAWS for Caring Cats, NED, Operation Turkey, or one of the many other programs the Guidance Department supports, our counselors demonstrate their dedication to our school. Please help us show our support for them as we celebrate School Counselor Appreciation Week, February 1-5.

Wildcat Grams

Celebrate Valentine's Day with a Wildcat Gram. Buckland Mills' PTO is now selling Wildcat Gram buttons featuring our Wildcat PAW. These buttons are being sold for only 50 cents. Send one to your favorite teacher, best friend or even your whole class. Order forms were sent home and are due back by February 10. Wildcat Grams will be delivered on Friday, February 12. Operation Hearts for Haiti

"Hearts for Haiti," spearheaded by our fourth-graders, is the name of the whole-school operation currently underway to support the earthquake victims in Haiti. Students are invited to bring in monetary contributions that will be collected and given to the Red Cross as a lump sum donation. Contributions are being collected from Jan. 18 - Feb. 12, 2010. Classrooms will receive a heart to place outside their doors for every dollar collected during this time period. Please support our school as we respond as a community and help those affected by this tragedy.

2010-2011 Kindergarten Registration Set

Kindergarten registration for the 2010–11 school year is set for Wednesday, April 14 from 8:00am until 3:00pm and Wednesday, April 28 from 4:30pm until 6:30pm. A list of required items is posted at the Register for School tab on the left. Please review this list for the necessary documentation. Additionally, registration packets will be available in the office beginning Wednesday, April 7. Please take the opportunity to stop by and pick one up - a complete packet will greatly reduce the time required at registration.

Remember that a government issued ID is required for entrance into the school. Please ensure you have one with you when you come for registration as you will need to check-in with the front office before proceeding to registration. Please check this website regularly for any additional updates.

In order to determine the support children need to be successful in school, parents of children who speak or understand a different language, in addition to or instead of American English, will be asked to call one of two Central Registration sites, Coles, 703.791.2727, or Ann Ludwig, 703.491.8432, to make an appointment for an English language evaluation. Beginning April 29, English language learners will be registered and evaluated at Central Registration. Parents will need to call for an appointment.

IBPYP Program and Transfer Requests

Applications are now being accepted for new students wishing to participate in the IBPYP program. New applications are due no later than 4:00pm Tuesday, February 16, 2010. Applications are available from the Buckland Mills office. A transfer request approved by the base school is a requirement for this application process.

Student transfer requests are now being accepted for the 2010-2011 school year. Please remember that current transfer students must complete a transfer request for the next school year. Transfer requests are available in the office.

Summer School Dates and Registration

Summer School dates have been announced for the Summer of 2010. Elementary Summer School will be held for a 3 week period beginning July 6, 2010 and ending July 23, 2010. July 5, 2010 is a holiday. The Art Enrichment Program is schedule for July 6, 2010 through July 16, 2010. For more information, including a registration form, please click here. Honor Roll to be Implemented

Buckland Mills Elementary is proud to announce the implementation of an Honor Roll system beginning this quarter - 2nd quarter of the 2009-2010 school year. After parent, staff and student input the Advisory Council decided to move forward with the Honor Roll as positive reinforcement for our students. School of Excellence Designation

Buckland Mills Elementary is proud to announce that it has once again obtained the designation of School of Excellence for Prince William County Schools. We are extremely proud of our students and teachers. All of their hardwork and planning throughout the year has paid off. Parents, we also salute you in your efforts to provide extended educational opportunities at home. A strong home-school connection is vital to supporting the education of our students.

In an effort to keep all Buckland Mills families informed, our PTO has launched an updated webpage. PTO newletters, agendas, and board members' contact information can be found here. To visit the PTO's updated webpage click on Parent Groups at the top of this page and select PTO once the Parent Groups page has opened.
Remember, monthly PTO meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month. These meetings are open to all parents and guardians. Our PTO is always in need of volunteers - no job is too small. 2. Scroll down the left side and click on My Personal Settings
3. Click on the Notifications tab
4. Select Setup Daily Digest
5. Choose whether to receive notifications on the day of the event, the day before the event or not at all

Selecting to receive notifications means that any event on our School Calendar will be sent as a reminder to your registered email address. This is a great way to stay connected!
